| (7/26) Augusta, GA - Northern Little League’s 11-12 all-stars wrapped up pool play with a
perfect 4-0 record as they beat Masters City (District 6) by a score of 17-3 in the state tournament.
The win also secured a #1 seed position going into the semi-finals. Kyle Carter (4-for-5) hit 4 homeruns and drove in 6 runs to lead the offense. Brady Hamilton (3-for-4) homered twice and drove in 3 runs. Cody Walker (2-for-4, 2RBI), J. T. Phillips (2-for-4, 3RBI) and Patrick Stallings (2-for-3, 1RBI) each hit homeruns for Northern. Mason Myers was 1-for-1 at the plate. Carter led off the game with the first of his homeruns and the Northern team never looked back. Hamilton’s solo shot in the second highlighted a 4-run inning. Northern led by a score of 8-2 going to the top of the 6th inning. But 12 batters and 5 homeruns later (including 2 by Carter), the Northern team had posted 9 runs and put the game well out of reach. Phillips, Hamilton and Stallings hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns. Phillips pitched 5 innings to earn his second win of the tournament. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 7. Masters City’s runs all came via the long ball as they hit two homeruns. Northern will now play Buckhead (District 2) on Friday at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to play in the championship game on Saturday (time TBA). The other semi-final game pits Warner Robins (District 5) against Masters City. The state champion will advance to the Southeast Regional tournament in St. Petersburg, FL beginning August 5. |
