| (7/28) Augusta, GA - Northern Little League’s 11-12 all-stars earned a spot in the
state championship final with a 9-1 win over Buckhead (District 2). Northern will play Warner Robins
(District 5) who defeated Masters City (District 6) by a score of 15-5. Northern continued taking advantage of the long ball as 8 of the 9 runs were courtesy of homeruns. Northern opened its scoring in the second as Ryan Lang reached on an error and Matthew Hollis (1-for-3) followed with a single to left. Kyle Carter (2-for-2) then stepped to the plate and launched his ninth homerun of the tournament giving Northern a 3-0 advantage. In the fourth, Buckhead retired the first two batters of the inning and Carter came to the plate. After running the count full, Carter reached on a walk. Josh Lester (1-for-3) came to the plate and promptly launched his first homerun of the tournament making the score 5-0. Buckhead picked up its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as a walk and errant pickoff attempt put a runner at third who later scored on a bad hop single. Northern iced the game in the sixth inning. Carter walked and Lester was hit by a pitch. J. T. Phillips (1-for-3) then singled to left scoring Carter. Patrick Stallings (1-for-4) stepped to the plate and blasted a 3-run homerun to left center. Carter pitched a complete game for his second win of the tournament. He allowed 2 hits while striking out 15. Northern plays Warner Robins for the championship at noon on Saturday. The winner earns the right to represent Georgia in the Southeast Regional Tournament beginning August 5.
