(8/5) St. Petersburg, FL – Northern Little League’s 11-12 all-stars stuck to the same recipe that’s worked to perfection thus far and the result was a 16-0 victory over the West Virginia state champions from Bridgeport Little League.

Northern hitters blasted 7 homeruns in the game and had a 10-0 lead before West Virginia came to bat. Kyle Carter (3-for-3, 2HR, 2B, 4R, 4RBI) led off the game with a monster shot over the scoreboard in right center. Josh Lester (2-for-3, HR, RBI, 3R) followed with an opposite field homerun and Cody Walker (4-for-4, 2HR, 3R, 6RBI) followed with a round tripper of his own to run the score to 3-0.

Before the first inning was over, Patrick Stallings (2-for-3, HR, R, RBI) had joined the homerun parade and Walker hit his second homerun of the inning.

Carter took the mound in the bottom of the first with the huge run cushion and he promptly struck out the side picking up the win. Kyle Rovig took over and pitched the final three innings, striking out four and only allowing two hits. Rovig was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and one RBI.

Brady Hamilton (1-for-3, HR, 2R, RBI) hit a solo homerun in the second inning for Northern’s only run and Carter hit a solo shot in the fourth. The game was called after four innings due to the mercy run rule.

The win gives Northern a 1-0 record in pool play. Northern’s next game is Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against the Tennessee state champions from Columbia American Little League. Northern’s final pool game against the Florida state champions from Greater Dunedin will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-final round on Wednesday with the finals scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. ESPN will broadcast the championship game live.
