(8/6) St. Petersburg, FL – Northern Little League's 11-12 all-stars continued on their quest to reach Williamsport with an 8-0 victory over the Tennessee state champions from Columbia American Little League.

Kyle Carter took the mound and pitched six scoreless innings for the win. He struck out 16 batters while allowing only one hit. He also had the game winning RBI with a lead-off homerun in the first inning. In the third inning, Josh Lester (2-for-4, 1B, 2B, 1RBI) hit a two-out single and was followed by Cody Walker (2-for-4, 1B, HR, 2RBI) who hit his third homerun of the tournament to make the score 3-0. Lester came through again in the fifth inning with an RBI double to score Carter, who was hit by a pitch. After a 30-minute weather delay, Brady Hamilton (1-for-3, 1B) led off the sixth inning with a single. A fielder's choice, walk and error followed to load the bases for Carter (2-for-3, 2HR, HBP, 5RBI). He launched a 3-1 pitch over the fence for his fourth tournament homerun to increase the Georgia team's lead to 8-0. In the bottom half of the sixth, Carter struck out the side for the fourth time in the game to seal the victory.

The win improves Northern's record to 2-0 in the tournament and guarantees them a spot in the semi-finals. The third and final game of pool play is Monday at 7:00 p.m. against the Florida state champions from Greater Dunedin. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-final round on Wednesday with the finals scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. ESPN will broadcast the championship game live. The winner of the Southeastern Regional will advance to Williamsport, PA to continue play in the Little League World Series August 18-27.
