| (8/9) St. Petersburg, FL – Northern Little League’s 11-12 all-stars are one game away from
the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA after defeating the Alabama champions from Cottage Hill
by a score of 11-0. J.T. Phillips was only allowed to pitch one inning in Monday’s victory over Florida so that he would still be eligible to pitch in today’s game. The move paid off as Phillips pitched a no-hitter while recording 10 strikeouts. He was also a weapon at the plate. With two runners on base in the first inning, Phillips (2 for 3, 1B, HR, 4RBI) went yard with a three-run homerun to give Northern a 3-0 lead. In the third inning, Kyle Carter (1 for 1, 2BB, 1HR, 1RBI) was intentionally walked, Josh Lester (1 for 2, 1B, BB) singled and Cody Walker (2 for 3, 2-1B) singled. Phillips struck again with an RBI single before Brady Hamilton (1 for 3, 1B, 2RBI) hit a 2-run single and Matthew Kuhlenberg (1 for 1, 2B, 2RBI) hit a 2-run double. The 5-run fifth inning made the score 8-0. In the fourth inning, Carter, who had walked twice, did what he has done so often in the tournament by hitting another homerun, his sixth. Walker followed with another single and Patrick Stallings (1 for 3, HR, 2RBI) hit his second tournament homerun, a 2-run shot to give Northern an 11-0 lead. The game ended after four innings due to the mercy rule. With the win, Northern advances to the championship game against Florida, a game that will be broadcast on ESPN on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to Williamsport, PA to continue play in the Little League World Series August 18-27. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
