Opening Night 2008

The 2008 spring season at Northern has begun! An off-and-on rain threatened to dampen the occasion but couldn't kill the enthusiasm of opening night. New Northern president Allen McMullen introduced last year's 3 state championship teams from Northern: the 10-11 boys, 10-11 girls, and Junior girls. After all of this year's 51 teams were introduced, the season officially kicked off with four games. The first game of the night saw the Major girls Shock defeat the Vipers 14 to 0. Ashley Worthington scored 3 runs for the Shock. In C-Ball action, the Braves defeated the Tigers 13 to 10. Stephen Broom was the winning pitcher for the B-Ball Yankees who defeated the Braves 8 to 6 in 5 innings. In tonight's A-Ball game, the second batter of the game, Stephen Fortenberry (HR, double, single, HBP), went yard for the Reds and behind starting pitcher Michael Rossi took an 11-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. But the lead didn't hold as Troy Gilliland scored the winning run on a hit by Phillip Hamric and the Blue Jays got the 12-11 come-from-behind victory.
